Project of the month

"Make 2 into 1"

Increasing capacity by producing components in double widths

RESULTS

·  55% fewer passes in drilling

·  40% fewer total passes in edge banding

·  80% reduction in one-sided
           edge banding passes

·  40% reduction in cutting quantities

·  up to 70% less staff required in

   component production (depending on the

   final degree of automation)

In addition, material transport between the machines can be significantly reduced.

EXISTING SITUATION

·  Serial furniture production needs to be modernized and capacity increased.

·  Machinery is outdated and less automated.

·  Labor intensive processes are being used.

·  Only a few machines are equipped with feeding systems.

·  Production of all parts are in single width.

APPROACH

·   Completion of a current state analysis and documentation

·   Analyzation of the range of parts according to quantities and required processing

·   Identification of components that can be manufactured in double widths

·   Determination of the impact on the overall process

·   Conceptualization of possible manufacturing technologies

  • Replacement of hand-fed serial drilling machines with an automated line, including two in-line drilling machines,
    followed by a rip saw
  • Extensive change in edge banding technology from one-sided to two-sided processing

·  Presentation of potential capacity increase
